Café Jelinek (Alcove)
Café Jelinek 1060 Wien, Otto-Bauer-Gasse 5
9 x 12 inches oil on canvas board.
Besides having great home made cake this is one of the most intimate and interesting cafes in Vienna. During the cold months the fireplace in the entrance beckons the weary traveller to sit and relax. Just when the temperature drops and you are about to ask... someone stokes the fire with frsh coal and the fire roars again.
Here is an alcove full of old photos and prints and just waiting for the next patron.

Yeah! My favourite Café. It is wonderful that the reproductions are so big that one can see your brushwork and I am fascinated by the abstract quality. The last one of Hawelka is super in its simplicity.
Hi Stefan
Thanks.... I really like this cafe too! Somehow it feels more like a family place and not full of tourists.
I'sn't it amazing how all those abstract shapes we put on a canvas end up looking like something we can recognize?
Don't you just love painting?!!
Cheers...Andrew
I can smell the coffee in this one. I agree with Stefan, the abstracted shapes draw me into this painting.
Hi Robin.
Thanks for dropping in!
Cheers... Andrew
Hi Andrew. Rene' led me to your blog. I must thank him! Your work is lovely. You capture the essence and mood of the places you are in. What a wonderful experience for us to "read" your story. You are on my favorite's list. ~Heidi
Hello Heidi.
I was able to check your work too and I can see we have a similar approach. I like your fresh, bold colors and painterly brushwork.
I'll be checking in on you too,
Cheers.... Andrew
Hi Andrew!
Stefan told me about you and your paintings and I already saw some of the "gruft"-paintings you did.
Now I see your paintings of our Cafés and and I like them very much - they are great - virtuos!
Cheers,
Michael
Guten tach Michael.
I am envious you are painting with Stefan in the Museum!! I know how much fun he is to paint with and I also learn so much from him too.
Thanks for the comments and I like your work very much too. I hope I'll meet you when I come to Vienna.
Cheers.... Andrew
Your description of this cafe sounds sooooo welcoming (makes me wish we had colder days here in California)
Wonderful use of lost and found edges. You've captured the warmth and life of the cafe and I love the way you indicate shapes using simple and bold strokes.
Beautiful!
By the way, any word on the development of the
'Vienna' workshop?
Cheers!
Hi Jennifer.
You made me get my butt in gear! The info for the workshop is now posted on the link PAINTING IN AUSTRIA under my workshop section. :)
