Happy New Year!!!

I haven't painted much but I have been creative.

I've spent the better part of the last six months building a studio in the top of our home.
This is what it looked like a little while ago...

And here it is now!!

I've done most of the work myself and hired pros only when I needed them (plumbing and wiring etc).

I now have space aprox 800 square feet where I can paint and hold my classes, including a seperate room for creating digital images for the illustration business. I have my own bathroom with a shower and a kitchen area to make coffee and clean my brushes.

When the snow blows , I can look out the windows watching it cling to big oak limbs while working in the comfort of the studio. In the summer I plan to build a nice deck outside and I can take my coffee out there for a break when I need to.

There are still a lot of finishing details to do but those will happen as I spend more time up here.

Hi Slim... thanks.

I'm really looking forward to doing more paintings in this new space too.

I've saved and waited many years in order to be able to build the studio of my dreams. I know it doesn't mean my work will be any better but I've worked out of some tiny little spaces over the years.

Painting

What a terrific renovation. It's mouth wateringly beautiful. Everything about it looks great. It looks like you completed it in record time, too. Congratulations!

Absolutely stunning views and a marvelous space. Your patience was well worth it. I can just imagine it filled with beautiful music and an artist enjoying every stroke he makes. Congratulations on a job well done.

Is this for real, or are you telling fairy tales now?!

It's such a winterwonderland view out of your studio, that is also a wonderful place to be, ...

Could it really be true?

Thanks Laraine.

I am really thrilled with the end result.
I spent about six months working on the space with a months break to Austria and a 10 day trip to India in between.
All in all it didn't take very long to build but I worked day and night to push it along so I could get back to the work I really love... that of painting pictures.

Cheers... Andrew

Hi Robin.
Yes I am pinching myself now and then to make sure this is real!!

I have my favorite music going and I don't even need to go down the stairs to clean my brushes anymore :)

I really love the views from here too and think there may be a painting or two inspired by the beauty.

I can do a plein air just looking out the windows!!

Cheers.... Andrew

Rene it's really true!

I know sometime back you encouraged me to get outside and paint instead of building a studio....
now that you see the snow we get in Canada you can understand why we Canadians spend a few months inside with a warm cup of coffee.

( I do head outside when it isn't really cold though )

Cheers... Andrew

Amazing transformation with your studio space Andrew!!! Wow.. you must be so pleased. I recently bought a place over by Spad and Harbord and am trying to use the 3rd floor for a studio...it's nice, but nothing compared to this!! You must be pretty handy!

Wonderful Studio, makes me jealous. I can't remember his name but in a recent issue of American Artist they had an article about an artist who never left his upstairs studio for subjects to paint. He painted views out the window and things inside. You could do the same with that terrific view you have. Barb

Hey Michael.
I do really like the space and also doing these kind of renos.

I often wondered if I'd ever have the space I dreamed of but dreams do come true sometimes.

Drop by sometime and check it out.

Andrew, what an amazing space -- what a transformation! Those windows are right out of Peter Pan or something. You and your students are in for a treat, I imagine.
